LEAGUE MISSION STATEMENT – This was written by Vic Zoldy, the league founder and still stands. Everyone plays and bats. Play safe, have fun, show sportsmanship, get some exercise, have some laughs, enjoy comradery and winning – in that order of importance. While we all enjoy competition and winning, at this stage of our lives, we shouldn’t worry about dropping or misjudging fly balls, striking out, missing ground balls, bad throws or having back to back senior moments, as we have all done these things in the past and will continue to do in the future. Be thankful you can still play for love of the game – and – “If you had fun – you won”!!
MARAUDERS TRAVEL TEAM Our travel team is made up of members of all league teams who sign up on a list posted by the travel team manager, Gordy Detweiler, after dates are determined by the various county team managers. Dates are usually available by late April to mid May. Games are played with each team on a home and away basis and players who attend the away games are given priority in spots for the home games. Home games Wed & Fri mornings.
LEAGUE WEB SITE --- WWW.MCSSL.ORG Thanks to the continuing superb efforts of Larry O’Malley. our website has been keeping players up to date on current League activities and functions for four years. We recommend that you check it often for news.
NEW LEAGUE APPLICANTS Those applying to our League for the first time will be assigned chronologically to a waiting list for openings on our existing six teams. Assignments to teams will be made as openings come up. If you have a team preference, please note so on your application form and we will try to accommodate you. Our past experience is that all applicants are assigned by mid May. Unassigned applicants may attend any or all of the practice sessions scheduled.
EQUIPMENT INFORMATION A. BALLS – Dudley Thunder Heat WS12Y RF, compression 375, cor .44 (to comply with new ASA standards for senior leagues) red stitch, synthetic cover. One new ball per game will be supplied by the home team. The best of the balls used in previous games will be used as a back up game ball. B. BATS –Only bats supplied by the league will be permitted. We have over 20 bats of different weights which are approved for our game. They are all single wall. This will avoid the problem of managers having to okay or deny usage of bats they are not familiar with. C. UNIFORMS – We will order new shirts this year. One shirt and cap are part of the membership fee. Those who want additional shirts, fill out the appropriate spaces on the application form. Please print carefully so that we avoid the embarrassment of misspellings. Prices for additional shirts will be $23 (S, M, L, XL) and $25 XXL. D. FIELD EQUIPMENT – Bases and their foundations are shared with other teams using the field. They go into the lockbox on the right. Bats, bat racks, scoreboards, cones, balls and the defibrillator pack, belong to our league and go into the lockbox on the left. Managers have the keys and the responsibility for keeping it right.
SPONSORS We are again fortunate this year, in that six league members who are connected to, or own businesses, agreed to sponsor teams for the next two years 2007-2008. I make special mention and give thanks to them below. Please take some time to read about these businesses in the enclosed flyers, and of course, if possible, show our gratitude by patronizing them.

CONTRIBUTIONS – GIFT CERTIFICATES Through our league promotions manager, Dennis Lapin (267-738-6551), we are looking for gift certificates from business patronized by league members. For instance, PUB II, where we have our winter meetings, has agreed to give us three $25 gift certificates which we will give out to members by drawing lots at our pavilion buffets during the year. If you patronize an establishment, ask them for a promotional gift certificate for MCSSL and turn them in to Dennis. In turn, the businesses will be mentioned at our meetings, affairs and in our mailings to over 115 league members.
Yours in softball,
Dennis Lapin League Commissioner
