The players of the Montgomery County Senior Softball League are extremely grateful to Univest for its help in furnishing a portable defibrillator for use in emergencies.

"Age is a case of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it don't matter."

Satchel Paige

The Montgomery County Senior Softball League is a Slow Pitch League that had its beginnings in March of 1999. It is now going into its eleventh season with eight teams, Magics, Marshals, Marvels, Maulers, Mavericks, Minutemen, Mongrels, and Mustangs, and the travel team, the Marauders.

The league is for male players 60 years of age and older, whose skills may not have kept pace with their enjoyment of the game.

The League is registered with the amateur Softball Association of Pennsylvania (ASA) and abides by their playing rules with modifications for our senior league and players. Some rules have been softened to protect the players such as: no base stealing; no sliding into bases; no metal spikes; and to avoid collisions, the League uses two first bases, and two home plates.

Everyone plays and bats. The league emphasis is on safe play, having fun, demonstrating sportsmanship, getting some exercise, having some laughs, enjoying camaraderie, and winning, in that order of importance. We don't worry about dropping or misjudging fly balls, striking out, missing ground balls, bad throws, or having back to back senior moments, as we have all done these things in the past, and will likely continue to do so in the future. We are thankful we can still play for the love of the game.

Membership contribution is $75.00 per player per season and this pays for balls, bats, insurance coverage, postage, and other league expenditures.

A DINNER OUT

BPI dining room On June 23, over 80 members and wives gathered for a dinner and fund raiser at the Bay Pony Inn. Like all of our social events, everyone had a good time and the wives really enjoyed being together.

Many thanks go to Joe Juba for handling this!
